St. Rose Parish Religious education classes begin at age 4. First grade is a pre-requisite for First Communion and First Penance. Attendance is required in each grade for the reception in the Sacrament of Confirmation in grade 8.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in eighth grade at St. Rose Parish. Students preparing for Confirmation attend a two-year program which includes study, learning, service, prayer and retreat experiences. Prior to this program, it is expected that the student has attended religious education classes through grade 6. The date of Confirmation is contingent on the Bishop's calendar and assigned by the Diocese of Bridgeport.
Those receiving Confirmation are asked to select a sponsor/godparent. In order to be accepted as a sponsor/godparent, a sponsor certificate must be provided by the pastor of the parish in which they are registered and practicing their faith. The person chosen must be:
- At least 16 years of age
- Has received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation
- Attends Mass on weekends and holy days
- If married, is married according to to the laws of the Church
If you are a St. Rose parishioner and you are sponsoring someone at our parish or another parish, please call the Rectory office for a meeting with Fr. Peter Cipriani.
Adult Confirmation is available through a special program offered in the spring by the parish. The Sacrament is received on the Feast of Pentecost.
